On  this website  you  see a photograph of  an unknown terracotta  statuette.

 




This figure  is, as yet, the only known pre-
served ancient  sculpture   of  the   Amazon  type Mattei we know of.







Due to the origin date, the  sculpture is at  least   the  earliest  representation  of   an Amazon created for Ephesus.







Based  on  scientific  analysis,  this  statuette may be a model for an ancient small reproduc-
tion or, of scientific interest, a "preliminary" study for the lost, oversized original statue in bronze.
